"Who Let The God's Out" and the author who made us friends with Greek superstars

Leo and I love bed time stories, but we do best unwinding when listening together via audible. This series has been so brilliant for our evenings and we have been hooked since my close friend, another home educating mum, enthusiastically recommended them (along with her kids who would lace conversation with quotes in incredible character voices from the author's recording).

Today, I am absolutely thrilled to shine a spotlight on this super author, Maz Evans, and her enchanting series of books, "Who Let The Gods Out." Get ready to embark on a journey filled with humour, heart, and heavenly adventures that will leave you grinning from ear to ear!

Maz Evans burst onto the literary scene with a bang, gifting readers of all ages a refreshing and laugh-out-loud take on Greek mythology. In the first book we are introduced to Elliot Hooper, a young boy with more problems than your average twelve-year-old. But when a misstep leads him to cross paths with the ancient Greek gods, you can bet that hilarity and chaos ensue!

One of the standout qualities of Maz Evans' writing is her ability to seamlessly blend humour with meaningful life lessons. As we follow Elliot's adventures with Zeus, Hera, and the gang, we can't help but be charmed by the witty banter, clever one-liners, and memorable character interactions. It's a testament to Maz's skill that she can make even the gods feel relatable and approachable.

But there's more to these books than just laughter. "Who Let The Gods Out" also explores themes of family, friendship, and the importance of believing in oneself. Through Elliot's trials and tribulations, readers are reminded that even in the most extraordinary circumstances, it's our determination and resilience that define us.

It is worth mentioning that some of this are explored so well that they could be considered triggering, except that they are resolved so beautifully, softly and lovingly, that you may consider them a toolbox for children sharing a parallel experience (without Greek gods involved, naturally.)

  • Dementia in a young person portrayed with some volatile behaviour
  • An absent father
  • Feelings of heavy responsibility beyond their years
  • Grief of situation, and separately of death.
  • Unkind figures of authority in a school
But let me reassure you, with a child who is, without exaggeration, extremely sensitive, in these moments we traversed with hugs and conversation, and came out the other side comforted and soothed by how
Maz resolves these emotions in Elliot with such incredible gentleness that you are just thrilled you had the opportunity to exhibit it to your child as an example of emotional strength.

Our favourite characters are easily, Hermes, Virgo and Karon, and as much as I love a paperback, I implore you to you listen to the audiobooks because her voice carries these characters in such genius, and she's bloomin' hilarious.

Maz Evans' writing style is like a breath of fresh air in the world of middle-grade literature. Her prose flows effortlessly, making her books accessible to readers of all ages. Whether you're a child, a teen, or a grown-up looking for a delightful escape, Maz's storytelling has something for everyone.

In conclusion, if you're in the mood for an uplifting and humorous read that will leave you with a grin on your face, look no further than Maz Evans' "Who Let The Gods Out" series. With her infectious enthusiasm for storytelling and her ability to infuse ancient myths with modern charm, Maz Evans has truly earned her place as a beloved author.

And what's this, she's got a new series coming out! Hooray!!
