A Galactic Adventure: Building Dreams at Droid Depot in Galaxy's Edge
Disney World is known for it's exquisite and seamless world building, not just in theming for areas like Fantasyland or Adventureland in Magic Kingdom, or the regions of Animal Kingdom like Asia and Africa, and lets of course not neglect the World Showcase at Epcot. Most recently, Pandora and Galaxy's Edge have taken the spot light and with honestly, zero overhype. It is worth all of the shout the internet has given it in the past few years and we were in love when we visited! One of the key amazing experiences we opted to putting our budget to was the Droid Depot. And we recommend it!
Droid Depot. Located on the outskirts of the bustling marketplace, the entrance is marked by a larger-than-life R2-D2.
You're greeted by a fascinating assembly line of droid parts, tools, and friendly Batuuans ready to assist you on your droid-building adventure. Here, you get to choose between building an R2-D2 style or a BB-8 style unit. The tough part? Deciding which one to go for! Both iconic droids come with their unique personalities and charms.
Once you've made your decision, it's time to get hands-on. You'll be given a basket filled with various parts, from domes to legs, and everything in between. With the help of a friendly cast member, you'll start piecing together your very own astromech droid. Leo opted for a BB8 style droid with some familiar colours and some other unique pops!
As you twist, connect, and assemble, you'll feel a genuine sense of accomplishment. Like Leo, he beamed with the opportunity to use these 'high tech tools' specialised for droid construction. Your droid will start to take shape right before your eyes, and start falling a bit in love with your new buddy!
One of the best parts of this experience is the customization. You can choose from a range of colours and accessories to make your droid truly unique. Want your R2 unit to sport a sassy red dome? Go for it! Feel like adding a Resistance symbol to your BB unit? It's all up to you.
After the final touches, your droid will be activated, and you'll watch in awe as it comes to life. It's an exhilarating moment that makes you feel like a true droid engineer.
But the fun doesn't stop there. Your droid will be more than a decoration; it will interact with other droids, the environment, and even attractions throughout Galaxy's Edge. Our little fella 88B (see what we did there?) beeped and bopped at everything we passed while we continued our day in Batuu and Black Spires.
Building a droid at Droid Depot is an unforgettable experience for Star Wars fans of all ages. It's a testament to Disney's dedication to immersion and storytelling. Whether you're a seasoned Star Wars veteran or a newcomer to the franchise, this is such a fun experience that, while it doesn't take up a massive part of the day, is worth the budget. We play with 88B most days and we love him right down to his parts!
So, my fellow adventurers, if you find yourself in Galaxy's Edge, make sure to carve out time for Droid Depot. May the Force be with you.
